Fussball

This self-initiated project aimed to create a football scarf for people who don’t follow a team – a neutral symbol that celebrates the sport itself. In contrast to traditional fan merchandise, often tied to rivalry and even violence, this scarf is a light-hearted response to the intensity surrounding football culture in Germany. The design is deliberately minimal: black and white only, without any team colors or branding. A generic Helvetica typeface reinforces the neutrality. The result is a nonpartisan fan accessory - simple, symbolic, and stripped of affiliations, focusing on the essence: the joy of the game.

The project also served as an opportunity to experiment with knitted textiles for the first time. The design was created in Illustrator, and a small batch of 15 scarves was produced and sold out. It was showcased on Instagram and received consistently positive feedback. A personal highlight: I was once denied entry to a Berlin techno club due to the venue’s no-sports-merchandise policy. When I explained and showed the scarf, the bouncers laughed – and let me in. This moment captured exactly what the project is about: a small disruption, a conversation starter, and a bit of fun.
